Ċetta from Valletta – The Story

The character of Ċetta originated from Paul Arnaud's song "Ċetta from Valletta," a beloved tune that remains popular today. This new and original musical breathes life into Ċetta once again. We'll explore her past and present, along with other characters who shape this musical.

The story is set in the early 1950s, where we meet Ċetta, a graceful and joyful girl raised with great care by her aunt and uncle, Aunt Carmen and Uncle Duminku. Carmen and Duminku, siblings living in Valletta's Mandraġġ area, chose to remain unmarried to take care of Ċetta.

Ċetta's cheerful personality brightens every corner of the Mandraġġ. She quickly makes friends with everyone, from sailors to neighbors. Among her many friends is her dear companion, Rita. Both Ċetta and Rita fall in love with two young men from Valletta, Ċensu and Pawlu. The two men, along with Rita, work at Caffé Premier in Pjazza Reġina.

Ċetta is also a singer, and we will see her pursue her dream of advancing from performing in Strada Stretta to singing at the Premier. This marks the beginning of a new adventure for her and those around her.

We will meet Notary Antonio and his servant Ugolin, friends with the Noble Baron Carlo and his family, who reside in Sliema. Additionally, familiar characters are given new roles tailored for this musical, shaping the story alongside the main cast. Who can forget the famous phrase "Penny for the pigeons"? Or the renowned Oscar Lucas and his band?

From the Mandraġġ to Sliema, we follow the dreams and inner desires of Ċettina, better known as Ċetta, Ċetta from Valletta!
